20th edition of the Marató d'Empúries
Run through history and nature at the 20th edition of the Marató d’Empúries.
The Sports Department of L’Escala City Council, with the support of the Catalan Athletics Federation (FCA), will host a new edition of the Marató d’Empúries in L’Escala on Sunday, April the 27th of 2025.
The start and finish lines of the races will be inside the Archaeology Museum of Empúries in L’Escala. Runners will enjoy a stunning and privileged environment like Empúries, the gateway for Greek and Roman culture to the Iberian Peninsula.
A unique and privileged location, rich in natural beauty, history, and culture. This archaeological site preserves the remains of a Greek city, the colonial settlement of Empòrion, and a Roman city, the ancient Emporiae.

The Bay of Roses has joined the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club. The club, which currently only includes thirty bays, recognises the value provided by the tourism, landscape, and culture in the region formed by the municipalities of L’Escala and Empúries. With more than seven kilometres of seafront, l’Escala is bound to have a spot which is ideal for all kinds of beach lovers.
At Empúries Ruins you can wander around the Greek town, the Roman town and the archaeological museum.
The first excavations on the site began in 1908 and since then, constant scientific recovery work has been undertaken.
Highly recommended are the original Roman mosaics at the old stately homes, the sculpture of Asclepius and the imposing Roman Forum.

The municipality of l’Escala i Empúries, in collaboration with the Catalan Athletics Federation, is organizing the 20th Empúries Marathon on April 27th, 2025, which will take place in the incomparable setting of the municipalities of L’Escala and Sant Martí d’Empúries.

- Departure will be at 8:30 am.
- 42,195 km certified circuit.
- Time limit of six hours.
- 29€ plus one solidarity euro.
C.01 – Junior, 18 to 29 years.
C.02 – Senior, 30 to 39 years.
C.03 – M/40, 40 to 49 years.
C.04 – M/50, 50 to 59 years.
C.05 – M/60, more than 60.

In the Marathon there will be trophies for the first 5 runners in the General Male Category, the first 5 runners in the General Female Category and the first 3 runners in any of the established categories.

The municipality of l’Escala i Empúries, in collaboration with the Catalan Athletics Federation, is organizing the 15th Empúries Half Marathon on April 27th 2025, which will take place in the incomparable setting of the municipalities of L’Escala and Sant Martí d’Empúries.

11th Kids Races Empúries
Within the 20th. Empúries Marathon, the Sports Council would like to involve the children in this sportive event. For the Saturday April 26th 2025, they will organize a children race, which will take place in the incomparable setting of the Empúries Promenade and the village of Sant Martí d’Empúries.

The 11th edition of the Empúries Runner Marathon Fair will be installed at the L’Escala Sports Pavilion, on Saturday April 26 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m.
